# Downloads folder cleanup

Claude Cowork scanned a Downloads folder of 2,200 loose files, proposed an 11-folder structure, and sorted the files after the author approved the plan.

Result: The initial sort took a few minutes and left no loose files in the main directory, in about 20 minutes of active work.

## How it was set up

Claude Cowork in the Claude desktop app on a Mac with a paid plan, granted access to the Downloads folder, starting from the built-in file organization prompt.

## Worth knowing

Needs a paid plan and macOS. The author advises backing up files first and notes prompt injection risks.

## Prompt

```text
Organize and tidy up my [folder name] folder. Group files into folders by type. Review the files in each folder, summarize what is there, and suggest how to subdivide and name them. Ask me before making changes.
```

## Evidence note

Author's blog post with screenshots, a sped-up video, and file counts
