# Tax prep with Claude Code

Claude Code compiled charitable contributions, itemized deductions from email and card statements, and a Schedule C for the author's consulting income.

Result: The author finished most of their tax prep in about three hours, work they say would have cost $1,000 from an accountant.

## How it was set up

Claude Code with custom skills such as /tax-guide, /tax-collect and /tax-compile, plus a Gmail MCP to find documents. Output went into spreadsheets for tax software.

## Worth knowing

Some steps stayed manual, such as eyeballing card statements to flag medical and childcare charges. Figures were entered into tax software by hand.
