# Terraform via MCP in Cursor

The author used Cursor with the tfmcp MCP server to run terraform init, plan and apply, provisioning a Postgres database, schema and app role locally.

Result: Provisioning worked after two fixes. The MCP hid the real errors, so apply ran through Cursor's Run tool, which suggested the fix.

## How it was set up

Cursor agent mode with the tfmcp MCP server, configured in mcp.json with the Terraform directory and PATH. Terraform code used the cyrilgdn/postgresql provider.

## Worth knowing

The MCP did not surface Terraform errors or confirm apply success. The author calls MCP workflows very early and flags security risks of adding MCPs.

## Evidence note

Blog post with config, Terraform code and debugging screenshots; no stated time or money saved
