Portfolio optimization plan from brokerage CSVs
Claude Code parsed the author's brokerage CSVs and notes, then built a phased portfolio optimization plan with tax analysis and fund swaps.
Over several sessions it produced a phased plan with tax impact analysis, fund swaps, and before-and-after allocation grids, comparable to an advisor's plan.
Overview
How it was set up
Claude Code (Opus 4.6) in a terminal pointed at a data folder. Inputs were brokerage CSVs, a typed notes file, a goal prompt, and a CLAUDE.md memory file.
Worth knowing
Needed several sessions of back-and-forth, and a long hand-written goal prompt covering constraints, preferences, and strawman allocations.
A prompt to start from
Here are my files: [brokerage CSVs and notes]. My goals: [goals]. Constraints: [accounts not to touch]. Preferences: [tax efficiency, low-fee ETFs, simplicity]. Here are my rough target allocations: [strawman]. Produce [allocation tables and a phased action plan]. Tell me if you disagree. Ask me questions exhaustively before concluding.
